I am Dr. Christopher Stevens, Ph.D. and I can help:
My name is Dr. Christopher Stevens. I am a clinical psychologist licensed in the state of Washington (PY60156501) and California (PSY21900) with over eight years of practice in the field.
Education
I graduated with a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the New School for Social Research in New York, NY in 2002.
I also received specialized training in couples and family therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family.
Professional Experience
I worked for four years at Beth Israel Medical Center where I was a supervising psychologist and private practitioner, working with adults, families, couples and children. I spent a year with Doctors Without Borders, which included providing trauma therapy with individuals and families in the Gaza strip. After moving to the west coast, I worked as a psychologist and Behavioral Health Coordinator for the University of California, Davis in Davis, CA. I currently have a private practice in Seattle, WA.
Theoretical Orientation
I take an integrative approach to therapy. My original training was in psychodynamic psychotherapy, but I also work from Interpersonal, Cognitive Behavioral, Family Systems and Mindfulness based therapeutic approaches. The combination of these styles allows me to take a very flexible approach to my work. I believe it is essential to take the person as a whole, including their family and personal history, racial/cultural background, religious and spiritual life, sexual orientation, and other cultural identities. I work collaboratively with my clients to determine what approach will best fit their individual and cultural style and needs.
Training and Supervision
A great deal of my work over the past 10 years has been in training and supervision of psychologists at the predoctoral and postdoctoral level. I have extensive experience working in individual and small group supervision, providing live supervision with one-way mirrors, use of videotape, and facilitating training seminars. I also work providing consultations to psychologists in practice. I have supervised and trained psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, counselors and marriage and family therapists.
Areas of Interest and Specialization
I was trained as a generalist, which has provided me with extensive experience dealing with a broad range of presenting issues. However, I specialize in couples issues, supervision, and providing therapy to other therapists.
