I am Marie Louise Lou Dodson, LMHC and I can help:
As a Psychotherapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice, I specialize in trauma therapy (Chldhood trauma, PTSD, Dissociation) for individuals and couples of all ages. I also work with a wide range of concerns and difficult life-transitions such as: depression, anxiety, relationship crises, tension and stress, age-related concerns, "feeling stuck" in sadness or frustration, disordered eating, low self-esteem, hopelessness, insomnia, panic attacks, grief, co-dependency or addictions. For 35 years, more than 20 of which in Stockholm, Sweden, and the past 12 years in the U.S., I have had the privilege to be in a profession I love.
I synthesize aspects from many therapy methods to help healing your wounds, and restoring your whole true self, to become aware of your strengths and resources, to believe you can heal, acquiring new coping skills, and through therapy clearing traumatic, disturbing, or painful experiences. My basic therapeutic foundation has its roots in Psychodynamic-Humanistic therapy, and Family Systems theory. I integrate a variety of therapy methods into my work, such as: EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy, Process-Experiential, Ego-State work, and Mindful Cognitive-Behavioral techniques. To help my clients to regulate emotions, and to decrease stress, tension, and anxiety, I also teach relaxation practices, somatic methods, and breath work. Additionally, I use guided imagery practices for nurturing and to build and strengthen internal resources.
My approach to counseling and psychotherapy is built on the belief that all human beings have an innate capacity to heal, grow, and lead happier and more satisfying lives, regardless background or current circumstances. I see myself as a guide, listener, coach, and companion on your internal and external journey toward healing, and the life you want. To that end, I also provide a peaceful, and relaxing therapeutic setting ~ a place where it feels safe to express thoughts and feelings about what is painful, confusing, or difficult. Professionally, I find nothing more rewarding than helping my clients moving out of the shadow of past or recent distress, and into the light of hope and positive view of themselves in the present, generalizing into the future.
